Venice – well was it romantic?

It was certainly crowded, noisy but I wouldn’t have called it “romantic.” Still, I suppose if you don’t arrive there until 11 o’clock in the morning during a week when Italian schools are on holiday, what else can you expect?

However it was also an exciting place – what a range of buildings. Including some very odd features

And the Gondoliers? Certainly the ones I encountered seemed more like a bunch of bickering London cabbies with striped shirts than off duty operatic impresarios.

It was good to get away from the crowds. IMG_6038Just a few streets away from the Rialto Bridge there was a small slightly run-down square where the real Venetians lived. A square, a church, a well – all that avid readers of Miss Garnet’s Angel would appreciate

If not romantic – an unforgettable day.
